I loved the travelogue part of this book--the author traveled to all (lots of?) the places in the Little House books, explaining what they're like now, and she delves a bit into the current politics of Little House (I know, right?).

Well, that was interesting. Not overly fun, but a decent read. Someone who loves Laura? Check. Someone who has read the books a hundred times? Check. Someone who wants to uncover the history behind the books? Check. Sounds like me. She even churns butter.

I would be interested in taking the same trip, but now I don't necessarily feel I need to. Thanks, Wendy! If you love the Little House books, you will probably find this a decent read. 3 stars.

So endearing, funny, and so so much more thoughtful and emotional than I expected. Even without having being a super fan of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, I am a super fan of this book!

The Wilder Life
by
Wendy McClure

Do you love
Little House on
the Prairie?
I do--and
OMG
When Wendy
ordered a butter
churn(even though
she lived in an
apartment) I
knew she was
as crazy as me!!

This book was fantastic. A must read for any grown-up Little House fans. I identified with so much of what Wendy was experiencing, even though are experiences are completely different. And it was funny. Her humor sneaks up on you. I found myself bark-laughing on several occasions, because something came out of left field but was so appropriate!

Cute book. I could relate to the author, when I was young, I really wanted to meet Laura too. Some parts were a little dry for me, but I pushed through.

I grew up on Little House. I had a sun bonnet and named my little plastic baby doll Baby Grace. As a young child I LOVED the tv show and would watch it as frequently as possible.

When I was old enough to read them independently, I checked the series out from the library, starting over at the beginning after I finished. Like the author, I can remember the exact place and shelf position the books occupied in my childhood library.

Reading this book was meaningful to me. The author is about my age and her experience with Laura during her childhood is similar to mine. And while I don't think I will buy a butter churn, there was something comforting and familiar about her journey through Laura World.
