This book is very close to my heart. Growing up in a religious environment and searching for answerssimilar to the main character, Peri. Incredibly well written with great character development. Peri felt very familiar, such a lovable person despite all the trauma in her past. This books portraits different experiences of women with Islamic background, teaching emphaty

I really wanted to like this book more. The two side characters felt more like stereotypes rather than friends with dimension. I wish we spent more time understanding Peri disposition and views in the present day.

Compelling and beautiful, Shafak never ceases to wow me. There are so many questions in the book that I want to ponder and the characters have remained with me days after finishing.

This book will give you the opportunity to delve deeper into the intricacies of its culture and the psyche of its people. This was very reflective, it really makes you think about women (muslim women specifically), religion, and what does it mean to be a believer, a non-believer or in-between.

The rating is “low” due to it being slow and unengaging in some parts. (And the title of this book is kind of misleading, since the book only focuses on one of the “daughters”).
