Such a fascinating story about stories. At no point did I know where the plot was going, so everything was a nice surprise.

I really loved all the characters. I feel like I need a sequel to know what happens to them 😭

Characters | 6
I felt I knew more about the other characters than I did Zachary who was the main character. I feel like he was kind of flat and I still don’t understand his purpose within the story.

Atmosphere | 7
The world building was great, but I never felt the emotions she was trying to convey. Though places were described as magical and mysterious, I didn’t really feel like I was being drawn into that place. Most of the time I was reading I just felt like I was casually watching stuff going on.

Writing | 9
I really enjoyed Erin’s writing style. Probably one of the main reasons I kept reading. I found myself wondering how she managed to come up with something so intricate.

Plot | 7
The plot was pretty much the same throughout the book so it was easy to follow.

Intrigue | 7
The idea of the book was very interesting. So much so, that I still want to read The Night Circus. I’m not sure why I want to, but there’s just something about her writing that I liked. I want to give The Night Circus a go to see if that changes my overall perspective of her books

Logic | 3
I found myself lost, frequently. When I got to the end of the book, I wasn’t even sure what I had just read. While the world building was great, nothing made sense. I think maybe she wanted it to seem that way but for some reason I felt like the characters were beginning to understand it but I wasn’t catching on. I could totally be missing something here though.

Enjoyment | 4
Because of the writing style, I was able to push through and finish reading but I wouldn’t call it enjoyable.

"There's always room for more books."

I don't even know where to begin with this one. I can definitely see why this may not be a book for everyone, but I think if you truly give it a fair shake you may just find one of your very favorite books. I know I did.

I think the best way to describe this is an eclectic mix of Alice in Wonderland and The Great Gatsby. Zachary Ezra Rawlins falls down a rabbit hole, a deep deep hole filled with literary wonders both real and imagined, all gilded with the Jazz Age feel of the great Fitzgerald. It's a beautiful homage to everything that makes for great story telling; a bit of mystery, a bit of romance, a bit of nail-biting is it all going to work out. No, it's not action-packed and there are some points where I really didn't know what the hell was happening, but I think that's kinda the point. If anyone needs me, I'll be over here sipping a sidecar and dreaming... I'll be thinking about this one for awhile.
