~ ‘All I know is that I’m here. And I’m alive. And I’m not alone.’
~ ‘There comes a point, though, when you can’t keep looking after other people anymore. You have to start looking after yourself.’

Not too long I read the Heartstopper graphic novels and Loveless by Alice Oseman. I knew that I soon wanted to read Solitaire, Alice’s first book and Tori’s story. I loved Tori’s character in Heartstopper so I was excited to learn more about her. I knew that going into the story it was going to be more dark than the Heartstopper books, there is even a warning at the start of the book (Alice, you really are the best for this). This book has a lot of references to deep topics such as mental illnesses and self harm etc, so be aware of this please before you read it. It is not all sunshine and rainbows, it is deep and meaningful however. Tori is an intricate character, sometimes a very difficult one. At times she could be infuriating and a bit upsetting but I still love her character because she is so incredibly human , she is far from perfect. Also, Michael is the best character, he’s so hilarious and sweet but he also has an angry side to him - again this is a very realistic representation of teens. Their friendship/love that develops throughout the book is so genuine and true and adorable

Having just watched the show Heartstopper, I thought I’d go back and read more in this universe. The narrative voice in particular kept me moving through this book.

Very sad and tugs at the heart. Very accurate representation of the teen mind. Good story and good twist
