I absolutely loved this book. The story sucked me in from the beginning, and I found it to be more and more captivating the more that I read. I love the heroine- she's a total badass. I can't wait to read the next installment in this series!

This is a great fantasy novel that engages the reader and builds a new world one can get behind. The fantasy 'crossing' requires some disassociation from reality but most fantasy does. I can't wait for book two.

Yeah, no. The "Kelsea needs to lose weight so she can be a queeeeeen" storyline and the way the book addresses (doesn't address) race and racism in a universe somehow based on the US/UK give this one star in my opinion. That aside, the worldbuilding is also confusing and annoying.

That said, I may read the other ones because I do want to know how this mess gets resolved.

good intruiging characters, but this just wasn't my piece of cake. I see why other people like this but for me it was just "meh".

This story of a group of men and women loyal enough to die for their budding queen warms my heart. It's not the first time I've read of loyalty, and yet this one impacts me in a different way then any other book has. Maybe because their loyalty isn't based upon friendship, romance, or blood, but pure honour. I am extremely eager to read on about Kelsea Glynn and her queen's guards. I hope my ordered book ships soon!
Quick side note, I adore Emma Watson, but I honestly don't think she's right to play Kelsea in the movie adaption! Kelsea is described as plain and 'has a bit of weight'. Watson's too pretty for the part and I just couldn't imagine her as the Queen while reading.

Couldn't really get into this. World building had some serious gaps - like explaining what The Crossing was. I assume they were intentional and we'll find out more in later books in the series, but I'm not sticking with the series to find out. The main character has a heart of gold, super powerful magical artifacts, and can seemingly do no wrong. Her one flaw? She's very 'plain' so the guy she's interested in doesn't like her back.

 Maybe longer review to come.

Really exciting adventure story with poignant (sometimes graphic) detailing of a medieval-like kingdom. The protagonist is a very strong female character who would make a great role model for teenage girls.

I was thrown off by the actual time setting at times, as I think the dystopian aspect didn't fit with the rest of the plot. Excited to read the sequel, so maybe we'll get more Tearling history there.
