3.91 AVERAGE

Wow! That was really good. I did not that plot twist coming. At first Shaw confused me, but then when Gavin came into the picture, it made more sense. I heard Jennifer L. Armentrout is a fan of Supernatural, which is why a character was named Jensen. Jensen and Ella were so cute! I really enjoyed the story!

This was my first Jennifer L. Armentrout book, and to be honest I was a little disappointed. Now I know this hasn't been properly edited and I read it for free (which I do think is amazing for an author to do such a thing) but I was just left feeling average. I don't know how else to describe it, I wasn't excited by the ending but it wasn't entirely horrible either. In my eyes it was just an average book, but still one I didn't hate reading. Over all 3.5/5 cause I did love me some Jensen and Ella.

I enjoyed this, but as a massive fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s writing, I was a tiny bit disappointed.

I think I’ve figured something out: I’m not a huge fan of JLA’s romances when the protagonist and the love interest already know each other because it almost gives off a bit of an inst-love vibe. Jennifer Arentrout is an absolute master of romantic build up. She did one of the best enemies-to-lovers romances that I ever read in Lux, and her forbidden romance in Covenant was to die for, just to give a couple examples. I like nothing more than falling in love with the love interest right along with our protagonist, and JLA does that much better than most. However, when the protagonist is already familiar with the love interest and has a past with him, it sadly does not evoke the same emotion in me, which was exactly the case here. It was a decent romance, but nothing spectacular.

The mystery aspect was very well done!! It was suspenseful and all the twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. Many scenes were absolutely chilling!
The final reveal of the killer was interesting, but I'm not sure it was entirely believable. Their motives kind of made sense, but it felt like a stretch.

I had some issues in regards to how realistic this story was, which is to say that it was not.
Ella was kind of an idiot. When she was being stalked by a murderer who had already made an attempt to hurt her and had left dead bodies for her to find, and she was just hanging out alone with her boyfriend at his house, I wanted to tear my hair out with frustration. Also, the fact that all of this was going on and the sheriff didn’t have anyone keeping watch on her house or anything??? And her parents repeatedly left her alone?
Also, when she initially signed up for self-defense classes and OF COURSE the instructor happens to be Jensen. Under most circumstances this could have made sense, but the fact that he was teaching self-defense classes all alone at the age of what, 17? How is he qualified or knowledgeable enough to do that? It was just too convenient and unrealistic.

All in all, this wasn’t overly impressive, but if you're in search of a quick, romance heavy mystery/thriller, I would suggest picking this one up!!

Woah!!! That was fantastic! I love thrillers and that kept me guessing right until the very ending! Everyone was a suspect and I loved trying to figure out what was going on. Jensen was pretty perfect trying to keep Ella safe from the killer among them. I loved their friendship and you could just feel the love they had for each other for so long. What a great read!

3.5 stars.
This definitely wasn’t an amazing book, but it’s a solid YA thriller and quite enjoyable.

. Fakt doporučuji si od Jennifer něco přečíst, ne nadarmo patří mezi moje nejoblíbenější autorky..

well that was stressful. thanks JLA. rude.

This book was everything I was looking for in a standalone novel- it has romance, mystery, thrill, suspense, some laughs and definitely tears. I literally finished it in one night and I had some really weird dreams that contained people with scary joker masks. While the mystery was a continuous part of the novel, the second chance at romance for two childhood friends who drifted apart due to circumstances and misunderstandings was beautiful captured. Some parts were really scary where the killer seemed more like an indestructible zombie to me, coming out and disappearing into nowhere. I think I was more paranoid than the actual character in a lot of scenes.
I had my suspicions on who might be the culprit but I couldn’t get completely sure until the very end. I have been so much into crime and mystery thrillers but I really like the young-adult aspect of the genre that Armentrout explored in this book. By the end of the novel, I was literally in tears and super emotional which has never really happened to me while reading suspense thrillers. I am glad I finally gave this novel a chance after having this copy with me for so many months. It was a good book to read in a night because I have been reading a lot of series right now so I was in the mood of something light. While this book was definitely not light, it was worth the effort.

I really hope JLA writes more mystery/thrillers like this and Don't Look Back! I have loved everything I've read by her. I love that they are always quick and engaging reads, but this genre is one of my all time favorites!

I had the ending at least part way figured out pretty early on, but it was still fun to see how everything came together!

I loved this book. It kept my attention and just when you think you got it figured out... Nope!
You feel Ella's tension and fear as she tries to come to terms with the fact that not only was she attacked and quite possible almost killed, but the person behind all of it isn't done tormenting her. Not to mention classmates seem to keep coming up missing and then bodies start showing up. It's enough to keep anyone up at night not to mention keep you turning the pages!
As of that weren't enough there is Jensen. Current school heartthrob and one of Ella's ex-best friends. Someone she hasn't gotten over and someone who hurt her in the past. But when the going gets tough he is there and exactly who she needs. I honestly felt like I was watching a lifetime movie... But a good one. Like ones they used to do. With good actors.
If young adult, suspense, and a little romance is your cup of tea then I would definitely give this book a try!
