I really loved the concept of this book, but for some reason I had to DNF it for a bit and then picked it back up later. It was sweet, and I didn’t hate it; I just found myself growing bored. I think the main thing was that not much actually HAPPENED during it. Which, a book about writing a book is sort of bound to be that way, but still.

I so deeply enjoyed this story about coauthors of a romance. The relationships and friendships in the book felt authentic and nuanced. The characters were all believably flawed and not rom-com flawed. The discussion of the writing process and the collaboration felt so authentic and transparent, which makes sense when a husband and wife author pair collaborated on this story. I am just genuinely glad I read this book and was drawn in by the writing and truth to the characters and their journey.

This was a little too meta for me. A romantically-involved couple wrote a book about a romantically-involved couple who write books about romantically-involved couples, and who process their feelings through writing. It was distracting as a reader. Plus, there wasn't any real backstory on either of the main characters giving any insight into who they are and why -- all you got was this specific relationship. I also found it overly angsty and slow-moving with all the back and forth from past to present and dropping hints of what happened between them before finally getting to it. I finished it (which is something), but ultimately I'm going with, "not a great read."
DNF’d around 40% of the book. I just couldn’t get into the characters, nor seemed to care about them at all.
