i expected a little bit more from this book to be honest
This is Salley Rooney in Florida. Do with that what you will.
I feel like this book had a lot of potential but I was pretty disappointed by the end with just how flat and repetitive the characters felt. They swore they loved each other but WHY? The only thing I could tell you about these two is that they're both writers and they're both ~tortured~. There was nothing lovable about either one of them. There were moments where I thought we'd get more insight into their backstories, their other relationships, why they write, literally anything, but nope, just a lot of "I loved you" "well I loved you" "Well too bad I hate you". 3 stars because I did enjoy some of the prose but overall this could have been way shorter.

Gah, the main characters were just so unlikable. The whole concept also felt really gimmicky considering the two authors are married.

The first half of this book was very slow for me and very hard to get into. The second half moved much better
"I write of course, but the content is functional, unenthusiastic, the prose equivalent of ground beef. Because every word wasn't written out of passion or intent but out of resistance. Resistance to the terrible gravity of the question I don't want to contemplate—whether Katrina was my real life and everything else, the interlude."
Oh my god I LOVED THIS. The pining, the YEARNING, the uncovering of emotions through writing. This is a SLOW BURN people!!!
Listened to this as an audio book and I feel that RARELY an audio book is as well done as this one is. I think I found a favorite narrator in Imani Jade Powers!
I loved the characters, I loved the Florida setting, I loved, loved the writing. Nathan's chapters in particular were so ROMANTIC. I couldn't stop smiling. I couldn't put this down. This story made me want to be a contemporary fiction writer???
I'm so surprised that the Goodreads rating of this isn't higher. I need to buy a physical copy IMMEDIATELY.
