When a list of attributes that “Mr. Perfect” must have goes viral, the worst that the four authors think will happen is some unwanted publicity – but they realize that things can get much worse as someone begins picking them off one by one.

I picked this book up on a whim – I’d never read this book before, but one of my Goodreads friends reviewed and it seemed like a fun read. Most of the romantic suspense books I’ve read have been by Nora Roberts, so I thought it would be good to expand my exposure.

This is a pretty long book, but so fast-paced that I read it quite quickly. The central story is pretty straightforward, and though we get plenty of insight into the killer, the big plot twist about their identity still surprised me. I enjoyed the friendships between the central characters, and how each of the women was fleshed out in a way that made you care when they began to die.

However, I don’t know how well the romance and suspense aspects of the books were combined. While I thought Jaine and Sam had a lot of chemistry, I wasn’t convinced that they were necessarily in love by the end of the book – everything moves so quickly, and not even in a way that really convinces you that this is a whirlwind courtship that will sustain itself in stabler times. The characters also espouse a harsh ‘men will be men, women will be women’ sort of feminism, very second wave, that was kind of jarring to read at times.
