Reading Bora Chung's Cursed Bunny took me on a nostalgia trip to my childhood. Me as a kid, getting lost in stories from Grimm's Fairy Tales, Aesop's Fables, and Tales of the Midnight Hour. It reminded me of my fascination with short stories, which featured different perspectives on life, love, relationships, society, and man's attempt to make sense of things that can't be explained.

My favorite stories from this book are: The Head, The Embodiment, Cursed Bunny, Frozen Finger, and Snare. The Head, most notably, is a perfect introductory story which perfectly captured the weird, absurd, and dark nature of this book.

However, I was a bit disappointed since I was expecting the same intensity of weirdness, absurdity, and intrigue to carry on throughout the book. Yet apart from my favorites, the other stories felt a bit lackluster, dragged on, and predictable to say the least.

Overall, I still love this book and I'll definitely read Bora Chung's other book, Your Utopia.

I was really put off by the first two stories, but I'm glad I kept going because I truly enjoyed some of the others. My favorites were the stories with more of a fairy-tale atmosphere. I already know that I'm not a fan of absurdist magical realism, so I'm not surprised that those were my least favorite. The basic statement of each was thought-provoking, if overwrought at times.
