The main plot is very good and intriguing, but the romantic subplot of the main characters could have easily been platonic and still captivating.

☆ One of the most fun coming-of-age stories that I've read in a while ☆

The style is humorous and engaging throughout. Quentin's view of the world and his ability to describe the shenanigans that high school years have brought him is entertaining. Coupled with the characterization of his amusing friends this was swift and fun read.

I enjoyed the message of the story the most. Quentin's, dare I say, obsession with chasing Margo and finding her is not as satisfying as we hope it would be. I think this is a message that, if we continue to chase the idea of a person without truly knowing them or seeing them for who they are, we will be as equally disappointed.

Noteworthy Trigger Warnings
P.S. Description of a corpse at the beginning, but nothing overly inappropriate. There are mentions of underage drinking and sexual references as expected from a coming-of-age-story.

I’ve heard a lot about it over the years but never read it, or seen the movie, and decided it was time to give it a read. I’d seen some vague spoilers here and there and knew the basic plot, so I sort of knew what I was getting myself into. Overall, I enjoyed Paper Towns. It was a relatively quick read and I found the characters interesting enough to want to keep going. I will say, I don’t think this book aged well. There’s quite a few controversial and offensive words used that I was surprised to hear. My main complaint is that towards the end, the characters blatantly tell the reader what the moral of the story is, which I didn’t like. I wish it had been more of a “show don’t tell” situation. The ending is also a little underwhelming, but I did already know this based on previous spoilers. But overall I’d recommend this book to any John Green fan. If you liked any of his other books, you’ll probably also like this one.

John Green’s writing pries open your eyes, wraps you in a warm blanket, and smashes all sense of time.
