Overall Thoughts:
⁕ This book is obviously not a feel-good read, but I feel that I have to emphasize just how graphic and intense some of the scenes are. It’s beyond icky at points and may not be the right fit for all readers.

⁕ A lot of the news, stories, and retellings of the Manson family focus on Manson himself. It was interesting to see the events from the perspective of one of the girls involved (even if this was a super fictionalized account).

⁕ I enjoyed the exploration of morality and evil through Evie’s character. One of the main questions the book asks of the reader is “can anyone be capable of evil?” — something I feel we don’t often get to discuss with female characters.

Unlike many, I really have no interest in the Manson murders and it actually initially turned me off from the books (cults have always creeped me out) but once I started, I felt almost embarrassingly drawn to it all, almost like Evie with Suzanne. I'm a sucker for a story that really examines the complex inner workings of a woman, particularly a young woman, and had to continuously remind myself that she was just 14 and Suzanne was just 19. Their bond, or the perceived one that Evie felt, was what really roped me in. Definitely gonna be thinking about them and this one for quite some time.

I wasn't expecting to like this book as much as I did. I love the way EC writes. The way she describes things is beautiful. It can be a lot sometimes, it's of a very specific style, but I do really like that style.
