Enjoyable, but obviously not up to Brandon’s standard these days. Still interesting to see where he came from. So many characters and ideas he built on later. A “Sanderson Curiosity” indeed.

I do not know how Sanderson does this to me but it is almost as he puts a spell on me to keep reading. I cannot stop myself but to keep reading and find out what's gonna happen. Having said that I really enjoyed this book, pulled me in so and held in strong grasp until I have finished it.

This is Sandersons "subpar" work which is really good. I really like the prototype characters that were later use din the Cosmere. As much as this is not Cosmere cannon book, I think there was a lot of interesting things that connect it to Cosmere. I cannot wait for Sanderson to rewrite the Dragonsteel into a cannon novel and find out more about Yolen.

I was a little let down by the ending, I thought it was a bit strange, some plot twists I didn't expect and also, as usual, I've been left with more questions than answers. It was a however a little unsatisfactory ending to the story.

As a cosmere fan, it was fun reading an early version of some elements that were refined and included in other books. That being said, that was more an academic interest. As a story, it lacks the polish of his other works.

The first book Brandon Sanderson said, and it shows. You can see the pieces of what will become Hoid, Bridge Four, the Realmatic Theory, Light weaving, and Allomancy (very lite) through this novel. Definitely a recommended read for any Brandon Sanderson fans to see where the lore all started in its infancy. Key to remember though this was a very early work, and it shows. Brandon's story telling style has evolved far beyond where he started, and we can all agree that has been a gift to the fantasy world.
