One of my favorite thriller endings are when we just don’t know how everyone’s lives will continue. This was so good and that ending has me a bit speechless. Lapena is becoming a favorite.

‘She Didn’t See If Coming’ by Shari Lapena is a breathtakingly twisty thriller that begins with Sam getting a call from his three year old daughter Clara’s daycare saying that his wife Bryden hasn’t arrived for pick-up. Soon, an investigation begins into her disappearance and everyone is a suspect…

It’s very hard to review this novel without giving things away - and per the title, it works best if you do NOT see some of the twists coming - but there were a few spoiler-free aspects I enjoyed:
- I was really gripped by some of the themes explored, including true crime message boards and the moral question of whether they help or hinder investigative work
- The variety of characters was intriguing, and each elicited sympathy and suspicion to some extent
- The relatively short chapters meant I absolutely raced through this book
- It had a satisfying ending for me, but left space for one almighty sting in its tail, which I loved!

This gets 4.5 stars from me and I absolutely recommend it to anyone who loves an unpredictable and gripping thriller! I’ve enjoyed other books by the author, but think this has become my favourite Shari Lapena novel.
