After enjoying The Memory Police, I didn’t know what to expect out of this book. It is much different and less of a me-book than The Memory Police was. I love speculative fiction and this is not speculative.

I anticipated that there would be

a death of a main character

but I figured it would be

Mina due to her frequent asthma-induced hospital stays.

I was surprised that it was

Pochiko, the pygmy hippo that Mina rides to school.

But this

forces Mina to break out of the shackles that her asthma has trapped her in and become the woman she was destined to be.
