Either I’m incapable of absorbing poetry delivered in text form, or I simply haven’t found a poet who can reach me. I’ll keep trying. I was fairly excited to dive into Rimbaud, but the only tidbits gleaned come from the chronology of his life, packaged herein. My final assessment is on that: I’m pretty sure he was a closeted homosexual. Perhaps Patti Smith’s preface sheds light on his life and the context of his work, but it’s somehow in even more need of an interpreter.
