This rating’s extra subjective. I can recognize it was well written, but it was far and away tooooo borrring and depressing. I almost gave up on it multiple times. I wasn’t overly fond of either main character, and actively disliked them repeatedly throughout. And not in the good way. Disappointing. But if you like a kinda slow, character-driven plain ol’ life story and don’t mind it being depressing, you may like it.

I understand the concept of this book and feel like it was great social commentary. The characters are portraying realities much larger than themselves and for that reason, I believe that the author did a good job.
However, I wasn’t a huge fan of a lot of things in Sally Rooney’s writing style and at times, it made it hard to keep enjoying the book on the same level.
