A fantastic introduction to the world of Sherlock Holmes. I can't rate it any higher than a 3.5 due to the strange way Sir Arthur Conan Doyle decided to tell the backstory of the murderer. Extremely jarring to jump from Watson's writings immediately to the prairies of America. Bizarre- otherwise a great start for the detective.
A brief note about the narration- this audiobook was the best of the 5 I had available from my public library. The others either just read the book or did really bad voices. Simon Prebble did a decent enough Watson and Holmes, though I wasn't a fan of how he pronounced Lestrade's name (Lestrayd vs Lestraud).

The book was ok. I was really confused with the chapters about the Mormons.

Late 19th century London, American Rockies, Mormons. Despotism in the name of religion. Fear of honest public speaking similar to that conjured by the secret police. Love & vengeance.
Great story.
