Okay, do you like the old slasher films? If so, you'll enjoy the ride of this book.

A lot paranoid and a bit ocd Lynnette survived her 'monster moment' but she's not really living. The only time she leaves her apartment is to attend group sessions that include other 'final girls' that also survived their monster.

When things start to unravel for those in group they learn one of them has been murdered. The question then becomes, if most of them have already had their sequels, what does that make this?

The group of final girls couldn't be more different if they tried, the only thing cementing them together is their shared experience of surviving a murderer.

When a new monster decides to go after the final girls, Lynne is ready, she has plans on top of plans ... but can she turn her back on the others and be the last final girl? Or can she shake herself up and help protect them and take out the monster instead?

4.5✨ Grady Hendrix is proving to be an auto buy author for me. His knowledge of horror and the Easter eggs he hid in this prove he’s a lover of the genre. I enjoyed this action packed anxiety inducing novel.

3 STARS!

Horror is my favorite genre so when I found out THE Adrienne King (Friday the 13th, 1980) was narrating the audiobook I had to check this one out. Adrienne did an amazing job and I can only hope that she narrates more books in the future. Now, besides Adrienne being the best part of this reading experience, this book is basically Scream 4 with a few little tweaks.

The book is also too fucking long and it drags so much at times that I wanted to fast forward, but Adrienne was so good I couldn't get myself to do it. As much as I appreciated the horror film homages sprinkled a little too heavily throughout this story, it was just an okay read. I am however looking forward to it being adapted into a movie, which I hear is already happening.

If you've been looking forward to this one, I'd say listen to the audiobook, you'll thank me later.

The Final Girls Support Group by Grady Hendrix

Take slasher films, narrow it down to the last surviving girl, the one who finally topples Jason, or Jigsaw, or Freddie, and you have a Final Girl: Lynnette is one of those final girls, but in the real world, and there’s only about 6 of them left. They meet once a week even 20 years later, and now, something’s coming for the final girls, or is it all in Lynnette’s head?

The unreliable narrator aspect of this was so well done. Not only did I question Lynnette’s sanity, but so did she. The pacing of this was well done in the way that it was nonstop, page turning action that kept me on my toes.

This is a first person horror/ thriller, there’s no spice, there’s no romance, but there are many twists and turns along the way.

I loved Lynnette. She is an extremely paranoid and untrusting character, but has every reason to be. This book does go through the backstories of all of the final girls and what happened to them, and I loved the creativity of them. Lynnette’s is particularly sad and disturbing, and I genuinely just wanted to hug her.

Loved the writing style in this. The action was well written, characters were exactly who I needed them to be.

Triggers. A lot. A LOT. I would final a full list online for this one, I’m going to miss some if I type them out.

The most dramatic book, but it feels like the stakes are just so low

The last third had me absolutely engrossed in this book. The beginning was really touch and go as far as my interest went, but once I hit that last third I could not stop reading. I 100% did not see that coming. Woah.

I think this is a 2.5 but I'll round up because I did like it. I feel like I should have loved this but I just couldn't get into it as much as I wanted to. The concept is really fun but I thought the execution was just ok. I was pretty confused for most of the beginning. I'm happy I pushed through because like I said I did enjoy it...but idk I can't even really explain. I read one review that said it would have made a better movie and I do agree that would be fun but don't really know how that would translate since all these main characters are...based on movies characters. I did like the little homages and references, it was fun, but sometimes far-fetched. Also wtf was up with
SpoilerHeather randomly having powers??? what lmfao. anyways...

I will say that I thought all the female characters were pretty well-written which I appreciate for a male writer, considering a lot of the trashy horror novels I've read lol
