Honestly, I loved the twists and turns in this. I wish it had been longer and explored the realms of the final girls a little bit more. But the choice of protagonist, villain, etc, where all fascinating and not what I expected at all. Super glad I picked this one up!

Phenomenal! As a horror/slasher movie fan, Hendrix crafted a story that references the horrors of these films but gives the "final girls" and second life (and maybe some closure in a sense). The twist of who was behind everything didn't grow stale for me and it ended up making more sense than one of the original misdirects. For a while though, it almost seems like Lynette is too unreliable of a narrator due to her paranoia but in the end, her will to keep pushing ends up coming in clutch. One of my favorite bits throughout the book was the various horror franchises we're used to having their names swapped from what we are used to. My favorite was Panhandle Meat Hook for Texas Chainsaw. I think this one might be close to My Best Friend's Exorcism for me, but I think I enjoyed it a bit better than We Sold Our Souls.

The action in this book kicks off immediately and never lets up. I enjoyed the unreliable narrator perspective inherent in Lynette’s POV, and loved how the puzzle pieces never quite fit together correctly until the absolute last second as a result. Not my usual cup of tea, but well done, engaging, and with poignant observations throughout.

An interesting way for the author to pose questions and levy a challenge about the way we as a society sexualize, idealize, and voyeuristically consume the female body in horror/violence.

Kept me on my toes, constantly guessing what would happen next and who was at fault. Cast of characters was sadly a bit dull and less fleshed out than one would hope for.
