A really well researched and well written book about the different types of men who hate women, why they hate women, and how it harms everyone.

At times this book was hard to read, I mean, it’s really fucking depressing to hear all of the ways men want to harm us and hate us. It was especially upsetting to learn that the younger generation is buying into this narrative at increasing rates because of how easy this ideology can spread online.

That being said, I’m really happy Laura didn’t shy away or play down the ugly truth of the situation, even if it’s not what we want to hear. Really important work.

Very informative, but dark. A great place to start reading about misogyny and sexism, though it does quickly introduce some of the worst of the worst which can be quite shocking. The author mentioned real violent and abusive acts that have been committed against women and also shared posts that contain unfiltered threats to commit these acts throughout the book.

I felt it was a good mix of showing the daily struggles women face just existing but also being empathetic towards the real problems men face. The last few chapters made me want to encourage the people in my life to take a more active role in the lives of the vulnerable people around them.

I did have trouble reading this book not because of the writing but because I recognized so much of what was depicted in my own personal experiences with people online and in-person. I read something more upbeat alongside it and took breaks when I needed them. If you're in the right headspace it is worth the read.

This book took me a long time to read as I had to pick it up and put it back down as it made me angry, horrified and upset simultaneously about the beliefs that people hold and how common it is. It's scary to think that people you are in contact with, friends of yours, colleagues, whatever could easily hold these views and be a part of these groups and forums online disguised behind their anonymity there.

The book started at the most extreme end of the spectrum and I was simply horrified. I had some inkling about incels and their community but seeing the language used and the posts they make and the sheer normalcy of their hatred and views in their community is terrifying. At some points I genuinely gasped and felt like I wanted to cry out of shock and horror.

Surprisingly the book began to get easier to read as she wrote about further up the chain, to the levels of misogyny that surround us on the daily. The kind of misogyny that we know and as awful as it sounds are familiar with and comfortable reading about because it's what we've been programmed to believe isn't a big deal and just a part of every day life. When I realised that was why I wasn't having such an extreme reaction to this and was finding it easier to digest I was shocked and then mad that I hadn't even realised or been aware of it.

This book is the first book I've read on the topic of misogyny and the extremism that accompanies it and I feel like it was a good place to start and has made me aware of how much more there is for me to know and learn about. It did feel a bit repetitive at times but I suppose that comes with talking about a topic like this with the different links of the chain and how they influence each other. However it has definitely opened my eyes up further and has given me the urge to want to delve deeper into this topic again.

This is an important book and the author did the research to provide insight in the addressed problems - and eventually an attempt at solutions as well. Even though I knew about most of these communities, this book still provided me some new insights. That being said, I had a hard time plowing through it and wouldn't have finished it this soon (or maybe at all) if it weren't for the January daily reading challenge. To me this information would have been presented more effectively as a series of journalistic articles, as in its current form it became repetitive quickly and felt too preachy to the choir to have a real impact.

Amazing book and incredibly eye opening. Hard to read sometimes because of the emotions I felt but I think this is a book that everyone should read atleast once, especially men. Highlighting these issues hat we as women and half of the population face is extremely difficult but I feel that Laura did an amazing job. I've definitely been motivated to spread this information to others and do my best to educate men around me in order to prevent as much as possible their becoming of incels. I cannot stress enough how educational this book has been. Will definitely reread.
