4.25 - Poor Lucia! Such a horrible past trauma. Listened on audiobook this time and it made it worse.

Ahh where it all started. A staple comfort read for me. Their story never gets old.

4.5 rounded up
I really enjoyed this installment, although the repeated scenes from previous books shown in different points of view got a bit old at the beginning. It had some enemies to lovers vibes, but didn’t really start that way.
Lucia was a complex character with many motivations and hang ups that made sense from her POV. I would have liked more background of Gareth and a deeper understanding of what drove him beyond his instincts.
In some ways I felt like this book was written as a way to push other characters forward for the sequel books than to tell Lucia’s story. However, her story was still told well.

Spice: 3.5/5

Triggers: dubcon, mention of sexual violence and torture, human sacrifice, cult encounters, violence
