A pleasant, if predictable, children's story. I'm glad I finally read this one, even if it's not an instant favorite. I think I might have enjoyed it more if I'd read it during my childhood (though I also had a great frustration with books full of happy children who spread sunshine everywhere they went, as my melancholic and extremely shy little self felt I wasn't measuring up).
I did like the interplay between British and American sensibilities here, with both sides generally coming to appreciate the other side more.
