Before I get into the main review, I really want to say how disappointed I am in Marvel and their omnibus edition of Clone Conspiracy. There's a table of contents with no page numbers because the book doesn't have page numbers. This becomes a problem as immediately after the table of contents is a chronological order of reading. This order doesn't match the table of contents. So as characters splinter off on side missions, you have to stop and flip around to continue or finish the main story and then read the side stories of how it came together. Not ideal.

Marvel, please fix your nonsense.

That being said, I loved this. Not as epic as Spider-verse and but still has quite a mix of Spiders and old characters. I'm not the biggest fan of Parker Industries, so a story that doesn't have that as a main backdrop is wonderful. Dan Slott has a love and knowledge of Spider-man and that shines through even if the story itself isn't the best or requires extreme suspense of disbelief. The Silk storyline by Robbie Thompson was my personal favorite and Anna Marie may be my favorite Spidey sporting character.

I enjoyed the first half of this collection which tells the main story. The spin-offs and sub-plots didn't grab my interest. My favorite aspect of this storyline was the interaction between the risen-from-the-dead Gwen Stacy and Peter. So much has happened in Peter's life since Gwen's death, but from her perspective it was literally yesterday. Clearly there is much feeling between these two, but the tragedy of Peter's life, that he can never be truly happy, holds true. Their interactions are bittersweet.

BTW I continue to really enjoy Anna Maria Marconi and what she brings to the Parker soap opera. She's smart, feisty, and has a clear sense of right and wrong in very chaotic situations. I hope she sticks around for a long, long time.

At least it was enjoyable to finally see Peter Parker fight Ben Reilly, with guest appearances all over.
