Love, love, love it! I'm all for the dystopian society genre. This book is great. Excitement, danger, romance... Everything that a good book needs.

it was enjoyable and quick to read......... for the most part. after a while started to drag on with the plot being mostly training montage and mc's inner dialogue. ultimately shallow in the ideas it was exploring, and so much longer than it needed to be. some of the narration style got real grating by the end of it as well

Slow start for me but once I got into it, it was really good.
At first, I found this book confusing and difficult to follow. It felt like a poor man's Hunger Games. But the more I read, the more I was hooked into the story and the more I sympathized with the characters and found myself routing for them. In the end I was a Divergent convert and picked up the sequel.

Weird to be reviewing this now so many years after I first read it. Back then this would be five stars, but now I recognize it as good but not the best dystopian around. Still very engaging and I like it on audio.
OKAY WELL I CAN'T BREATHE ANYMORE I MEAN I AM PROBABLY THE LAST PERSON EVER WHO READ THIS BUT OMG IT WAS SO GOOD I STARTED YESTERDAY EVENING AND I JUST COULDN'T STOP READING IT WAS SO THRILLING AND I LOVED THE WORLD AND THE WRITING AND THE CHARACTERS STARTED GROWING ON ME AND THEN THE END KILLED ME AND I SHIP THEM SO HARD SO YEAH I WANNA DIE BECAUSE I WANT INSURGENT. NOW.
LOVED IT !
I have no words ! I really love dystopian worlds and this one has to be my absolute favourite of them all !
The way the characters evolve in just one book is already great, can’t wait to finish the trilogy !

This is one of those books that I don’t really know how to rate lol. I was sucked in and read it very quickly given how long it was and immediately bought the sequel on Apple Books lol… but rereading as a more solid adult who’s read a lot more and thought more and grown since I’ve last read Divergent, the world, until explained a bit further by the author in the special edition on Apple Books I bought, I thought it was kinda ridiculous to have a world based on literally FIVE personality traits and do away with the people who have more. Like people are a lot more well rounded than that generally. On any given day depending on the circumstance, I could be any of the factions. But as explained by her author’s note, it is a way of controlling them, basically, hive mind. That is never really explained in the book. It would make more sense if it was explained in the book. But that wasn’t a necessarily something I thought about as a teen so I get it. It’s a bit annoying as an adult though lol. But the action and adrenaline junkie stuff is definitely fun to read. And also I felt like her characterization was pretty good overall even though Tris is kinda the standard kick butt female YA character, but she has flaws and is aware of those flaws and I like that.
