Slow moving, beautiful destination read. Check yourself into The Bird Hotel and fall in love with La Llorona. The cover illustration does not do the place justice.

Another good read from Maynard. Even if some of the plot was predictable, the characters, the setting, the plot and the writing are beautifully developed and executed.

[b:The Bird Hotel|62357986|The Bird Hotel|Joyce Maynard|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1669233155l/62357986._SX50_.jpg|92735636] This, for me, was a beach book. While the setting was described beautifully as well as the food and drinks and flowers and plants and water and volcano and (really stereotypical) characters, nothing was surprising to me in what normally would have been twists to the story. But it was enjoyable to spend some time in this idyllic setting.

Such a magical story with such beautiful detail I could picture everything!

This is wonderful. The start is a little slow, however the point of the slowish start is to set the stage for the magical like story.

Trust in the process and you will understand.

A lovely work from someone I've been reading for almost 60 years
