Romance novels are all pretty predictable but usually engaging characters and some comedy (or drama) make them a fun read. This one was lacking something. It moved too fast without enough character development to make me care about them I think.

Received an ARC from Netgalley.

ARC received from NetGalley in exchange of honest opinion!

"But I can't help think that there's something more. That marraige is something more. That love is something more. And nice is nothing but settling. And I don't want to settle. I want it all. I want a fairytale, happy ending, happily ever after, and the to be continued."

Relatively “Date to Dare” makes for a fast and quick read. It’s some 175 pages and took me only about two hours to finish reading it. November has been a very intense month for me reading wise so I suppose this book was kind of a welcome change even though I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have liked to.

It’s quite clichéd story following the lives of two people Elliot and Darcy, who are best friends since they were little kids and understands each other like no other. Or do they? Because Elliot is secretly in love with Darcy for the past one year and she has no idea. She is just pissed at Elliot for dating the wrong sort of women. Anyhow, they end up daring to find the perfect partner for each other and while Darcy clicks instantly with guy Elliot sets her up with, Elliot’s date ends up in a disaster. He should be happy for his best friend but instead he is miserable. What will Elliot do? Will he act on his feelings? Or will he let go of Darcy?

So, cheesy, I know, right? I won’t deny the fact that this book was a good change of pace for me and some parts were kind of tolerable. However, there isn’t anything new in the story. It follows the same old trope of friends to lovers; the writing is average and the characters are not that great either. It’s a very short book so there isn’t any sort of emotional, angsty developments. Everything just fell flat for me and the story didn’t really give me any feels. Things just happens and everything falls into place quite easily. Also, Elliot and Darcy acts more like teenagers rather than grownups.

Overall, I guess you need to be in a particularly silly mood to read this book because this book is just that, puerile, pulpy and corny. NOT FOR ME!

The Date Dare is a short and sweet story revolving around two lifelong friends, Darcy and Elliot. Darcy is an international hotel chain expert and Elliot is a trainer for a professional lacrosse team. Throughout the past 25 years, they have always kept in touch.

Elliot's never been one to settle down into long-term relationships. And because Darcy feels like she knows him better than anyone, she dares Elliott to let her find him a date. Someone who she feels would be a good fit for him. Never one to resist a good dare, Elliot agrees to it on the condition that he is allowed to do the same thing for her.

Darcy and Elliott have a great friendship. You can see how close they are by their interactions. Watching each of them go on their dates was a fun and interesting aspect to the story. But no matter who they went out with or what they did, I was just waiting for that moment when Elliott would realize that he no longer could be on the sidelines when it came to his love for Darcy.

Even though The Date Dare is a short story, it didn’t feel rushed and the characters were easy to like. If you are in the mood for a little romantic pick me up, then read The Date Dare. And while you are at it, check out The Date Deal, the second book involving Elliot’s sister, Carsen.

RATING: 3½ out of 5.

This was a cute best friends to more story.
Elliot and Darcy have been friends since they were 6 years old and one of them falls in love with the other, but they dare each other to find the perfect dates for the other.
And so it begins...
I liked Elliot and Darcy, both were good characters in this book.

I received this ebook copy from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.

As a note, a copy of this novel was sent to me via NetGalley by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not effect my opinions in any way. Review also found here at Booked J.

Can I get something out of the way first? I LOVE Tara Sue Me. In fact, I've been a fan of hers for the better part of a decade, tracing right back to the Twilight fan-fiction days. I just adore how she mixes steamy romance with wit and a little sweetness, which is why I was so excited to read The Date Dare. It promised to be so different from her previous works that I am familiar with--namely The Submissive series--and I think my problem was that my hopes were too high and that, ultimately, I hyped The Date Dare up so far in my head that it wasn't ever truly going to measure up.

Which, obviously, isn't on Tara Sue Me or The Date Dare by any means. Still, although there were a lot of cute little moments sprinkled into the novel, and a bit of humor and bad luck (see: Elliot's date with Kara) that make the story worth a second glance.

There's nothing inherently wrong with The Date Dare. It is sweet and sexy and witty. It is the very definition of cute, quick reads, and a total must-read for fans of friends-to-lover stories. However, I often felt like I had already read the book and that was something I couldn't get passed.

The Date Dare's biggest problem is, perhaps, the lack of development between the characters. I felt like I knew none of them particularly well; not their present, their relationships, their jobs, their backstories, not anything. It felt like the characters were all developed off-page and never quite mentioned, which was frustrating. With everything move along so quickly and smoothly, there needed to be something more to the characters.

That being said, The Date Dare had its fun moments but it is by far my least favourite release by Tara Sue Me in recent memory and simply not my cup of tea. Knowing what we know about Tara Sue Me, readers will instantly acknowledge the good of the book but at the same time feel conflicted by the fact that we know the story could have been more fleshed out.

I didn't hate The Date Dare, but I doubt I'd reread it in the future. I will say that I look forward to the sequel, that ties together two minor characters, because it has promise to it. I find that this book will likely leave people of two minds: they will adore it or feel underwhelmed by it. And that's okay.

My review, my thoughts, are of my own, and as always I encourage you to not take it as the gospel and give The Date Dare a try.

I was really excited to read this one as the synopsis sounded fun and intriguing.

Sadly, it did not hit the mark for me. It had so much potential, but felt like a major flop.

It more or less just felt like a log of thoughts and conversations. There was so much talking, even some useless conversations that had no purpose.

I found that a lot of details were either left out or lacking and sometimes something would happen without an explanation.
How did Darcy know to go to the treehouse? He never told her that was his plan and it should have been something asked, "How did you know this was where I was taking you?" Or something.

It also really irked me that Darcy was so naive towards Elliott.
Even during they're date, after he has pulled her into his lap and is holding her, she is convincing herself that he doesnt have feelings for her. And I'm sorry, but you're on a date!! Why are you reading and falling asleep??

The thing I liked most was the idea behind the story, but for the most part, it just didn't work for me. I really had to force myself to finish this one - blame curiosity and my inability to DNF.

* I was provided and Advanced copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review *

This was an average romance contemporary. I would’ve like to see more of a major plot and the characters more developed, however I got excactly what I needed out of this book. It was short, and sweet.
