3.75 ⭐️ Took me a bit to get back into the story with this latest volume. There’s a lot of political maneuvering throughout the series and a large cast of characters so I’m having a hard time keeping track of what’s going on. That being said, I do love that it showcases a lot of strong female characters. Still love the darker themes and stunning artwork so I will most likely pick up the next volume to see where it goes from here.

Love the series but this was not my favorite volume. I found parts of it hard to follow and didn’t think it moved the overall story forward very far or answered any questions. It’s basically one long battle that isn’t even resolved by the end. I know it’s an ongoing series but each volume until this one followed a more satisfying arc.

I thought the fourth volume in this series had lost a bit of its stride, the story getting too big. The fifth volume, though, is a brilliant collection that reminds me why I love this series so much. Best of all, it sees Maika Halfwolf starting to embrace a bigger role for herself in the world. Watching this change in Maika is both exciting and terrifying (and I love it!). Most of all, Kippa is turning into an even more important character within this story with a mystery of her own to be unraveled.

When people on social media ask for people to name their favorite comic book series, my answer is always “Monstress.” Can’t recommend it enough.
