This was cute. It's a gay version of The Princess Diaries, but it also had a (very) YA Red White and Royal Blue vibe. As in, there are rules one must follow when it comes to being a prince, and while these royal families were completely fine with our two MCs being gay, one family felt strongly about WHO one should date, and the newly discovered American prince is Not It, so the budding relationship had to be kept under wraps and was always assumed to be temporary. I think a younger reader would love this book much more than I did - there's nothing wrong with it, per se, it just wasn't as fully fleshed out as a book for a more mature audience might be. So while I didn't LOVE it, I can absolutely see why someone younger would.
