Storytime: Penguins, Families *Also, Baby Storytime
“Baby Penguins Love Their Momma” by Melissa Guion is an adorable story about a busy mother penguin and her brood of penguin chicks. All week Momma Penguin does her best to keep up with teaching her babies each important skill they will need when they’ve grown up (no one likes preening practice on Thursday’s, but everyone loves squawking in Saturday’s). Momma loves teaching her babies, and she’s proud to watch them learn, but she’s TIRED. So on Sunday she finally takes a break, and discovers that even though her little ones are growing up, she’ll always have the job of being their Momma.
This is such a sweet story to read with little ones, with it’s reassuring message about growing up. It also is a great reminder to all moms that you are doing a good job in the eyes of the ones who truly matter, and you should give yourself a break!
The illustrations are cute, but there is almost nothing to the story.
For: penguin lovers; readers looking for a sweet book about family.
Possible red flags: feeling overwhelmed.

I love the watercolor and pencil illustrations! The story is a sweet one, too.
A simple, but cute book, about a mama teaching her baby penguins the skills they'll need. Good for the younger set. Would make a good Mother's Day or baby shower gift book.
