4.1 AVERAGE

Definitely picked up after a pretty slow start

After the first book, I was left feeling decidedly underwhelmed. I wasn't really sure what all the fuss was about. However, after reading the second book, my heart is definitely warmed. Sure, the eponymous Scott Pilgrim is a bit of a douchebag, especially when it comes to the girls, but there is something funny and charming about him and the situations he finds himself in are definitely amusing. I am keen to watch the film, especially since I can see Michael Cera bringing a sensitivity to the role and the all-important likability that will mean you are rooting for him to succeed, not fail. I will be reading the next one at some point for sure.

These books are SO FREAKING FUNNY it almost makes me ANGRY! Man, to write dialogue this way!! How is it so funny!!! I love it!!!! !!!x4!

Probably my favorite is the massive volume of tiny freakouts Scott is constantly having. So funny, and also, so good a way to make him an understandable character. My understanding of him is a lot different now than it was at the start of the first book. I like him this way lots better. Slightly pathetic. Super anxious. Not really a winner. But somehow winning by default.

I hope next we learn what's driving Ramona, because I'm still not 100% sure she's worth it. Will probably add another star, once she is.

i want to hit the back of scott’s knees while he’s walking so he falls over

These books are so good. I really never thought I'd love a graphic novel, but this one is outstanding!

I really can't rate these independently. Each volume is so linked. I just have two things to say about this volume, both spoilers.

Spoiler
I didn't care for Lucas Lee being defeated by being tricked into a skateboarding stunt that goes wrong. Scott isn't a Odysseus-type character, he's Achilles.

I liked how Knives and Ramona fight. In fact think they should have kept their rivalry going instead of Knives becoming part of the crew.

I love the art, but that was about it for me. The plot was just too weak. Maybe I had high expectations, with so many people praising how good this series is, but right now I'm not sure I'll get to volume 3.
