3.5/5 but I'm rounding up because I think this book deserves a look and I truly enjoyed it by the end. The beginning 40% is really hard to get through; it's very exposition-heavy at first, and I struggled with some aspects of the writing style, but the second half is where this book shines. It took a while, but eventually I fell in love with the two MCs and their dynamic. The dystopian setting and mech-fighting action was very cool and much of the dialogue was sharply written. I think dystopian YA fans will find quite a bit to like about this.

So glad I started reading this duology after both books were published because that cliffhanger of an ending was BRUTAL. Also, my god, I’ve been reading this all day. Every time I picked this book up I couldn’t seem to put it down. It’s tons of fun, the characters are incredibly lovable, and the romance— ugh i love me a slow burn where they’re both aggressively pining for each other.

Also, I’m beginning to realize that my favorite genre is definitely science fiction and fantasy, which is odd because I’ve only started reading it last year, but hey, at least I have all the good book to catch up on!

The first half or so is a bit of a drag and almost made me DNF, but it quickly picks up steam in the second half. I loved the developing morality and individuality of the characters. The world building and concepts of the mecha were interesting too!
Dialogue is fantastic with some beautiful lines sprinkled through out.
I’d recommend it for fans of Iron Widow and The Hunger Games, with common / shared themes between the three.

Was ein Wunder, dass ich dieses Buch beendet habe. So viel potenzial und an sich eine super coole Idee mit den Mechas etc...aber leider überhaupt nicht das, was ich mir erhofft habe. Sadge
