Stopped 15% in, might give it another try but it wasn’t catching my interest and the plot felt contrived

I really wanted to like it, as I feel like there’s so few books that center Sapphic relationships, but I just couldn’t get into it. The plot had potential, but it was very predictable and used a lot of common tropes without adding anything new or interesting to them. It’s not a bad book by any means, I’ve certainly read worse. I just found it a bit boring and decided to move on to something else.

Author constantly makes mistakes that break immersion.

Why are the control wires for the mech pilots implanted in their veins instead of connected to their nervous system?

Why does a motor vehicle have pistons under the cabin instead of in the engine?

There’s a bunch of issues like these in just the first quarter of the book

Also the narrator whispers everything. Wouldn’t have been an issue otherwise but figured I’d add that as well.

did not finish. got like 50% in, and it sucks because the plot would be SO good, if it weren’t for the bad world-building and the fact that eris is already in a relationship at the start of the book. her boyfriend, milo, is a good guy her cares about her, so there is really no reason to hate him. based on what i’ve read online, by the time eris and so a establish their relationship, milo and eris have already broken up. but, milo is kicked off of the team because he tried to kill sona. now, if someone from the opposite side of war is invited by my girlfriend who i haven’t seen in forever, who was kidnapped by the enemies, is brought to join my crew, i wouldn’t trust them either? also, as a bi person, it sucks that this is the representation that was given of another bi person in this novel. the author also doesn’t really explain how the present world came to be, and puts a lot of focus on the characters. i liked sona, and didn’t really like eris, and i really wish that this book was written better because the plot is SO interesting.
