I don't normally go for fantasy romance, but this one was really good. Excellent world building, incredible magic system, and a really heart-jerking romance. Definitely worth the read, if you can get past all the trigger warnings.

It took me a bit to get into this book (partly because of work and partly because I put it down and picked it up so many times that I was just confused). It was wonderful though and I am very happy I picked it up. All of the characters, primary and secondary, were created with such care, the world-building was awesome, dragons are always a plus and Raeve is just exquisite.

Phenomenal first instalment to this new romantic fantasy series. Parker’s writing was so beautiful but not too longwinded and the world building was really well done. Enjoyed the magic system and the beads, and absolutely loved the ‘talking to the creators’ elements. Several mysterious and plot layers revealed and more to come. Kaan & Raeve are heartbreakingly beautiful together and I pray they get their happy ending! So excited for the next chapter.

Found it was too violent and I am trying to avoid unnecessary gore. If you check the trigger warnings, you'll see what I mean.

At first I was concerned I wouldn’t like this book. It was pretty slow to get going (lots of world-building!) but once it gets going, I was utterly captivated by it. That slow start becomes worth it and you are left with a thoroughly satisfying end. I will be preordering the next one and will be waiting impatiently until Autumn 2025

3.5

I liked this story, but it was extremely confusing and needed a lot of editing it didn't get. The first half of this book is long and winding and barely has any consequence in the second half of the book. The second half of the book was amazing! But it took me WEEKS to get through the first half. There were a lot of like random plot points that just HAPPENED to the main character and did not move the plot or character development along at all. This book was way too long for the story it told.

Still giving it a 3.5 because I did really like the characters and the world building. I'm going to need some help remembering everything for the second book.
