Yet again burned by tiktok hype. The world lore seems cool - dragons, the creation story etc and the illustrations are beautiful but I cannot read 700+ pages of this writing. Everything is over explained with metaphors on metaphors on similes on metaphors on adjectives, and not all of them even make sense.
"His head turns in my direction, gaze sweeping across the upper half of my face like a warm, soft bristled brush, stiffening the air between us." - I can deduce what she means from context and vibes but if you really stop and read that it's fucking nonsense. Not to mention everyone is described as 'male' and 'female' to the point that it's incredibly repetitive and I'm not even that far in.

i do not understand the hype of this book. it was bad. i considered DNFing it multiple times but i convinced myself that i had put too much efforts to give up.

people say it’s a slow burn romantasy. let me tell you, it’s more of an unrealistic insta-love story between the two main characters. the romance isn’t good, the smut is awkward, and the tension promised wasn’t giving anything. the only physical trait we get from the MMC is that he’s massive (and that is being repeated every other chapters for no reason).
also the plot twist??it’s not really a slow burn if they knew each other before and she forgot everything, no? and even tho she’s a completely different person, he’s still in love with her??? WEIRD

people say the characters are great. they aren’t. the FMC is a wannabe walmart version of celeana from TOG. she’s not sassy, she’s straight up self-centered and disrespectful. she refuses to think about anything else than revenge, and, while i understand she was grieving, it was too much of an obsession in the bigger picture.

people say it’s filled with dragons. it is not. dragons in this world are basically a means of transportation and nothing more. that was disappointing.

people say it’s a unique world system. personally, i wouldn’t say that magic based on the elements is very unique. i would even say it’s overused. in this context specifically, some other kind of magic could’ve been better. magic like the truthtunes and the mindwefts couldve been expanded instead. it would’ve added to the story. the world is barely explained (even with the 20 pages of glossary at the beginning). the author tried to be different but lacked the imagination to do so.

let’s not forget about the writing. why is the author trying so hard? there are so many words for no reason, so many complicated words (thank god for my kindle to give me definitions so easily), so many unimportant metaphors. everything gets lost in the attempts of being poetic. i had trouble keeping up with what was going on because i was having trouble understanding the language and syntax of the author. omg and the dialogues??? they were SO cringey i simply couldn’t deal with most of them. the book is over 700 pages and there wasn’t a single thing happening, not a single plot line. i wanted assassin, i wanted passion and angst, i wanted battles and secrets. we got nothing expect a trip inside the mouth of a dragon and failed attempts to escape.

in short, i couldn’t connect to anything in this book and it made it painful to finish it.

This was primarily okay. I didn’t love the main character, and her story didn’t compel me. Her relationship to Kaan was also nothing special In my eyes. I’m not mad I read it but I would surely never read it again, let alone the second book.
