As an introvert myself I marked this to read as soon as I heard of it, and I'm so glad I did. I started reading a library copy but found myself wanting to underline so many things that I went out and bought my own copy. I wouldn't say that anything I read was particularly surprising, but I appreciated so much reading the scientific reasoning and putting into words so many things I have noticed or felt or experienced during my life. It was also very validating to know so many other people (introverts) have similar experiences. Lastly, I felt like I learned a lot about myself and other people (both introverts and extroverts alike), including many tools in how to more productively interact and communicate. This is definitely one I will keep on my shelf and re-read over the years.

I just didn't agree with her basic premise. I feel like she was creating a problem so she could write about it.
What an amazing book. I am regularly labelled an extrovert (by people I work with), but have never totally identified with that, given my hobbies (reading and computer games...not exactly social) and my preference for an evening at home, rather than out with people. However, I bought this book not to discover my inner introvert, but because I wanted to understand more about how others worked who are introverts, such as my partner.
I certainly did that on the path to a greater understanding of myself. Cain's writing style is incredibly accessible, dropping in numerous sociological and psychological studies as evidence, but in a natural manner that doesn't distract from her storytelling. She's funny, empathetic, non-judgmental and self-aware. I would highly recommend this book to introverts or extroverts: anyone who is interested in why we are the way we are and how it can affect your behaviour, interactions and relationships.

Ran out of time before it needed returning to the library. Hope to finish it sometime.
