This is an old favorite of mine. I'm glad to see it still stands the test of time for me.

"Real isn't how you are made, " said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."
"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.
"Sometimes", said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."

Read “The Velveteen Rabbit.” Was cute. The concept of conscious toys very much is not to me. What a sad life to be at a child’s whim and have no autonomy.

The Velveteen Rabbit is great! My issue is moreso with the other stories. I was expecting them to be just as in depth, but the remaining stories were just shortened versions of each story.

The Velveteen Rabbit itself is, of course, a five star story. The other stories in this collection, however, turned out to be mere plot summaries of other popular children's stories and fairy tales (like Peter Pan, Pinocchio and the Ugly Duckling). Why?!?!

This is a nice short collection of children's animal stories. The pictures are cute and added a nice touch for my children.
