“don't tell me my women aren't as beautiful as the ones in your country.
our backs tell stories no books have the spine to carry”

“the thing about writing is i can't tell if it's healing or destroying me”

“how cruel i was to myself. giving you credit for my warmth simply because you had felt it. thinking it was you who gave me strength. wit. beauty. simply because you recognized it. as if i was already not these things before i met you. as if i did not remain all these once you left.”

Moments of this book are like course salt sprinkled into an otherwise bland dish — there are bursts of flavor, of an emotional reaction, but inconsistently.

i feel really bad about my rating. but it is what it is.

this is my first time reading poetry & i don't have anything to compare it too. however i wasn't much of a fan of kaur's writing.

i felt bad for my rating because this book shares kaur's life and her experiences. and i don't know what to do. i loved that she shared her life through poetry, but her writing just lacked, it wasn't all that great in my opinion. it was an okay read for me.
