This is a ripping yarn! Peter James manages to make every chapter stimulating. It is so hard to put this book down.

Roy Grace is a seasoned detective, and his day is about to be ruined. Logan Somerville makes a terrifying call to her boyfriend, but the line goes silent after her scream. He makes a frantic call to the police. That same afternoon, workmen dig up the remains of a woman underneath a path that was laid thirty years ago, again the police are called.

Are these two seemingly unrelated events linked? Who is the odd man who contacted a psychiatrist to say he knows important information about Logan? Is her boyfriend involved? Does Brighton have a serial killer on the loose? And what did happen to Roy's first wife?

A fast-moving plot with plenty of questions and fascinating characters.

Absolutely LOVED this book, read in 4 days and could not put it down!! Full of plot twists and cliffhangers that left me perched right on the edge of my seat the entire book. Definitely one to read if you're trying to get out of a reading slump or if you enjoy thriller/crime fiction!

The book was captivating from start to finish, I literally couldn’t put it down. The only bit I was a little disappointed with was the ending, it just kind of ended and I feel so unsatisfied!

I’ve never read a peter james novel before and I have a feeling this will be the first of many!

Really enjoyed this thriller. I found the story original and different from ones I've previously read in the genre. What I loved most was the fact that the police team in the book was not the usual bunch of toxic men you see in thrillers and crime novels. Instead, Peter James has written men who display emotional intelligence, who aren't afraid to show their emotions and who don't act like women in their life are nothing more than a ball and chain, except of course their pretty co-workers whom they love to ogle.

A big part of my enjoyment came from the simplicity of the story. It was clear very early who the bad guy was and I loved being able to see the team reach the same knowledge. I also liked the little side plot with Grace's ex-wife, as it definitely left me wanting to continue the series to find out what the deal is.

The only negative for me was the amount of filler and repetitions that bulked up the book unnecessarily.
