Literally every kid in this book has terrible parents. Every single one. I also... just don't really find the main poor kid (I forget his name) that interesting.

On Guard gave me whiplash so many times with complete 180s in characterization — even within a single scene (||tearfully accepting a marriage proposal to running away in 2 seconds flat without the necessary internal monologue to explain it||), but it could have been really good. I liked the douchey rich MC more than the grew up religious and got disowned by his parents MC, who didn’t really seem to have a personality. The smut was 🔥🔥🔥, but the characters were very poorly fleshed out. Even rich boy MC, who had an actual character arc, made decisions that seemed to clash entirely with everything that had been built up. Also, why is he such a simp for the personality-less other MC? I love a good obsessessive hero, but I hate when authors are too lazy to actually make the obsession make sense.
Oh, but epilogue etiquette: the last chapter starts with a couple months’ time jump to the national fencing competition (oh, did I forget to mention that poor MC is at university on a FENCING scholarship? 🤣) and I was happy to see that it was a chapter, NOT an epilogue.. and then there was another time jump of a couple months to an epilogue. And then a second epilogue.
Still, it wasn’t a DNF for me as I went into it expecting zero plot only smut. And the smut was worth it.

The book had a promising start but as you got further in it became rather mixed up. The characters seemed to contradict themselves, one minute Oliver was saying he would never date anyone then he was all over Isaac, saying he could t even talk to anyone else, then he was all over him but then saying no one could know and they had to pretend to hate eachother. The same went for Oliver's parents, one minute they are very conservative and there is talk of arranged marriages, then it's like they completely forget about their views and his mother can't wait to take her gay son shopping. By the end of the book I just didn't care about the characters or the plot any more.

So many 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩 but I loved them! 😅
Oliver and Isaac took me a bit to fall in love with, but I was eventually rooting for them.
I was more interested in the side characters (I NEED OWENS BOOK RIGHT NOW!!) And I wished there was more of the fencing/sport.
The family drama was nice though. 😁

I don’t even know we’re to start. This story is so Fricken amazing that I can’t express any words to tell you that this is so amazing good. This is a MM angsty read and let me tell you it is a fast paced hard to put down book. This is an amazing start of a new series by 2 amazing writers. Oliver is so intense that he drove me crazy with his obsession with Isaac. These two are the perfect couple.
