Dawn Bentley, Where's the Golden Egg? (Price Stern Sloan, 2003)

I don't know quite what to make of this book. It seems to me, and I will admit I could be entirely wrong in this, that if you're going to put out a book like this, which is an object hunt kind of thing (there's this golden egg, and we're wandering around looking for it, see?), there should be some sort of coherent thread—either in the locations that you choose or the attributes of the things that you find that turn out not to be what you're looking for. This book seems to have used a random generator to come up with both (or it was written by a hyperactive six-year-old, take your pick); the glittery bits are quite pretty, but there's no connecting thread. If that doesn't bother you, then by all means go for it. It bothers me every time we read it, however. **
