I’m so insanely proud of Dan for achieving what he has. This book is good, as someone who has studied counselling and some mental health I appreciate the background behind it. It’ll be useful for a number of people.

Daniel Howell really went all in with this book... and I thank him for it. I learned SO MUCH by reading this, and it’s actually been helping me with my anxiety. I’ve been going to therapy for almost a year, and I think pairing this book with my sessions has helped IMMENSELY.

Not only did Howell made me laugh at some of his cringey (in the best way) jokes, he also made me realise a lot of strategies that I honestly thought didn’t work. His voice will encourage so many people to read this book, and they’ll end up having better mental health because of it.

Thank you Daniel Howell for writing this book. I will recommend it to everyone.

This book was super helpful and encouraging. I love how it is well-researched and provides real psychological information. It is obvious how much time and care Dan took into creating this. It is the first book I have ever properly annotated and I will say that process added so much to my reading experience. I was able to relate to many parts of the book and pick up lots of valuable advice along the way. I highly recommend this psychological guide that is realistic and down to earth.

I was hesitant to read this book because so many self-help books are a bit sus if not genuinely harmful. But Dan has written something so amazing and useful here. This book is full of practical, science-based advice on how to improve your mental health, ranging from short-term remedies for bad nights to long-term healing advice. I would recommend this to anyone who has bad nights and wants to feel better but doesn’t know where to start (though I might add a warning about the innuendos lol). I might buy myself a physical copy so I have the exercises on hand when I need a boost. The audiobook also has audio exercises, a timer, and even a lo-fi beats track with inspirational quotes. Hearing Dan’s familiar voice read it made it all the more special, like I was getting advice from an old friend.

- I'm not a self-help reading girlie but I thought this was alright.
- lots of basic tips; the book is really useful in the way Dan has described it - as a bare bones practical guide to mental health
- I think some things might be oversimplified and there's a lack of nuance. But I guess for the general public most of these tips will work
- I forgot how much Dan writes like the way he talks in Youtube videos (which in hindsight, I guess all have written scripts anyway)

3.5 — not surprised at all, but still kinda disappointing personally. i think one of the largest public conversations surrounding mental health should be how oppressive systems and capitalism absolutely destroy it, and this book only brushed over that pretty lightly. i do think a lot of the advice the book offered was valuable — nothing was new to me, but a lot was stuff i’ve learned in classes or given as advice myself before. it’s not a bad book! just relatively basic and not what i personally want out of a mental health guide. i wish it’d been less individual-focused, i guess? just not for me.

also i think it needs more editing lmao there were some truly unclear sentences
