Good book about Boston during the Revolution and the Battle of Bunker Hill. Very engrossing and liked it better than the Samuel Adams book.

I knew, because fellow Boston tour guides have been telling me for years, that this was THE book to read about the run-up to the American Revolution. I expected a great read and I got it! I didn’t expect the human side of the battles, nor how moving many of the people’s stories would be. Highly recommend!

Nathaniel Philbrick is a masterful storyteller, and I can’t express that enough. This is only the second book I've read by him, and both have completely captivated me. Bunker Hill reads more like a novel than a traditional historical account, drawing the reader in with its vivid narrative. Philbrick’s attention to detail is extraordinary, and it’s clear that he’s a true craftsman in his field.

Having visited Boston a few years ago, I was fortunate enough to see many of the locations mentioned in the book. But after reading Bunker Hill, I feel compelled to return to deepen my understanding of the city’s history. The book provides so much additional context that I didn’t even realize I was missing — it’s truly enhanced my appreciation for the events surrounding the American Revolution.
