8.26.22 I read this because it's the Seattle Reads pick for the year. A couple times I considered setting this book aside and not finishing it, but I'm glad I did. It made me cry happy tears. It had great resolution at the end. I listened to the audiobook, and I really enjoyed hearing the author read it out loud; on the flip side, I know if I'd had a physical copy of the book I would have made a family tree to keep all the characters straight, and google the Spanish sentence sections so I'd know what was being said. It's an artfully beautiful book, and the characters are continuing to linger in my mind. This was a bittersweet read for me because my Grandpa passed away as I was reading it, and he was around the same age as Big Angel, but I think it helped me process the grief, and consider end of life care, and familial love in a different way.
