Als ich den Klappentext gelesen habe war ich sofort Feuer und Flamme because romatische Fantasy und Ägyptologie in einem Buch vereint? COUNT. ME. IN - aber was mir hier geboten wurde war komplett anders als ich es erwartet hatte. Es hat mich nicht gänzlich enttäuscht, aber auch nicht komplett vom Hocker gehauen.

Ich mochte Inez und Whit als einzelne Charaktere sehr gerne, beide haben Ihre Qualitäten, die sie als interessante Protagonisten darstellen, jedoch habe ich die Entwicklung ihrer Beziehung nicht ganz fühlen können. Die Dynamik zwischen Inez und ihren Familienmitgliedern hat mich fassungslos da sitzen lassen, vor allem ihre Mutter. Bei Gott, ich versteh nicht wie man seinem eigenen Kind all das antun kann. Und ich hoffe sie wird für all das zur Rechenschaft gezogen.

Der Plot war an einigen Stellen sehr schnell und leicht zu durchschauen, aber das ist auch vollkommen okay. Für meinen Geschmack kam der Fantasy-Anteil und die Erklärung des Magie-Systems zu kurz und ich hätte mir vielleicht auch noch etwas mehr Bezug zum Thema Ägypten gewünscht, weil das Setting einfach wirklich so unfassbar viel Potenzial zu bieten hat.

Das Ende kam mir viel zu plötzlich und es wurde eine Bombe gedropped, die mich mit ganz vielen Fragezeichen zurücklässt und mich trotz einiger Kritikpunkte ziemlich neugierig auf den nächsten Band macht, der ja zum Glück schon in wenigen Tagen erscheint. Ich bin sehr gespannt wie es weitergeht.

This book was slow for me starting out but it turned out to be a great story filled with Egyptian ancient history, mystery, betrayal and a little sprinkle of romance. There better be another book.

This story belongs on r/everyonestheAT. I enjoyed the book, the vibes were amazing, however I didn’t truly like one single character.

Inez’s parents are TERRIBLE, and it’s frustrating that the MC doesn’t really see that (up until kinda the end but even then she’s not mad at the enough imo). Like they basically aren’t even parents to her.

. The twist was fairly predictable despite the author not really giving out any hints, of which I would have liked to see more just to make the story feel more like a flow and less stagnant for the majority of the book. I don’t feel like we (or Inez) sleuthed out anything throughout the story, it was just eventually revealed/handed to us by her being bratty. And I’m completely on her uncles side, she had no business being there, and she caused massive and highly preventable issues. I do like whit and Inez’s relationship, even if he does seem a bit toxic, but again, we should have had more about him revealed throughout the story instead of the trauma dump right at the very end. And speaking of the end—

her cousins death felt very out of place in the story for me. It completely switched the vibe up and didn’t feel cohesive at all with the rest of the story.

. I also wish the magic system had been explored/explained more. It was mentioned in the beginning, then was so ignored for a good portion that when it was brought back up I had nearly forgotten about it. I never felt that I truly understood how it worked, neither did anyone else, and most unrealistically, nobody wanted to figure it out.

All of this sounded very negative, but I did actually rate it highly and would recommend to anybody (especially if they’re a fan of The Mummy). I look forward to reading the next book!
