i found the writing to be abrupt, telling rather than showing. the plot was also abrupt. a lot happens at the end. throughout the book i knew i didn’t want to read the next one, but im intrigued by the cliffhanger.

It has such good bones but feels like a draft. The plot is so convoluted with things just happening for the sake of it. But then the pacing was also so slow?? I also wanted to shake half the characters and did not understand any of the relationships or why we cared about them. For Inez and Whitt…. I don’t love them but don’t hate it either.
I was a child who had a hyper-fixation on Egypt so I did love the care that went into the history and mythology. The book was enjoyable enough that I wanted to find out the mystery and stayed through it.
Random notes-
Whitts POV was so unnecessary. I feel it took away from the book. There’s just FIVE random times we hear from Whit, and the timing was always so random.
The audio book is excellent! I loved the readers ability to do all the different accents and really gave each character their own voice.

How could this ever be compared to The Mummy? Death on the Nile, sure…but The Mummy?! Evelyn and Rick are no where to be found.
