SINOPSIS
After the mysterious disappearance of her parents, Inez Olivera travels from Argentina to Egypt to find some answers. Her uncle is not happy and wants to send her back to Argentina but, of course, Inez doesn’t give a shit and stays anyway. By staying, Inez starts to discover that finding the answers she needs will make her part of something bigger and more sinister.

MY OPINION
I broke my book-buying ban because I needed a book with little romance and a story about egypt mythology and history seems perfect. Boi, it did have romance 🤣 but at least it was kinda clean to keep me going and omg I have things to say. The story is quite original, mixing historical aspects of Egypt with magic and archaeology. I like that it explains that in the old days, there were people casting magic on some objects and that some of those objects remain in existence. I hoped it explained better how that worked.
Plot wise, this is a rollercoaster experience and you don’t have a moment to rest. Did you think you guessed the plot twist? WRONG, because everything Inez discovers give the clue to something else, so you never know what it is truly happening and you can’t trust anything or anyone. I find this a little bit problematic because it goes through some many lines that sometimes I couldn’t follow, but it kept me hook, that’s why I gave it 4 stars.

THE CHARCATERS

Inez is the typical I am not like the other girls kind of FMC, she is strong headed, and doesn’t have a preservation instinct because all the problems she is in is because SHE DOESN’T THINK BEFORE ACTING! But I know this comes from the fact that she is young, she is naive, she doesn’t know better. On the other hand, I think Inez didn’t truly love Whit. He was the first man that showed a little bit of care towards her and she went down with it (I understand you girl, I am like that too). Also I don’t think Inez grow during the book (or the second book, but that a story for another review)

Whit is the handsome, morally grey, right hand man of Inez’s uncle. We have his pov too and it is full of mystery, we never truly know what he is doing for Ricardo and he is very cryptic about everything. I wanted to fell for him and be a new book boyfriend but it didn’t because I think instead of love for Inez, he was lusting over her, he was caring towards her and two seconds later giving her the cold shoulder . BTW, he was leaning on doorframes every single page lol

Ricardo it is also a complicated character. His attitude towards Inez is quite cold, villany even, so when Inez finds clues about him being the villain I didn’t doubt it a second. But then, sometimes he was a normal archeologist and I didn’t know what to think.

FINAL THOUGHTS
I gave it 4 stars because it keep me hooked even though some parts were kinda boring and didn’t add to the plot BUT it has a lot of history, banter, plot twists and drama. The final part of the book made me literally scream like WHY DID YOU FINISH THE BOOK LIKE THAT?! So, of course I needed to read the following book immediately.
Sadly, I read the book in spanish, so the effect where character would speak spanish instead of English was lost in translations (they kept the italics for effect I guess but it looked dumb)

DO I RECOMMEND IT?
YES! I did have a good time, it gave me motivation to pick up reading again(going through a heartbreak is difficult) and if you read the book please buy the next one if you want answers immediately.

Would have liked some more discussion on the magic system, but overall this was a great historical fantasy, with discussions of colonialism and the role of artefacts. I'm also super excited to see the romance develop in book 2!

An enjoyable read, was just what was promised (an adventurous book for fans of The Mummy with some Romance sprinkled in). In some moments and especially in the beginning it lacked a proper pace; there was a lot of telling instead of showing and many plot points seemed to barely touch the surface, but seeing this book is marketed as young adults makes me forgive this. The chemistry between the main couple is brilliant and I loved to delve into the world of Ancient Egypt again. Am looking forward to begin the second part after this.

Oh this book was so good! I love the fact that the archaeology is for preserving history and working with Egyptians rather than being grave robbers. Plus the addition of magic is right up my alley.
Most of the twists were so unexpected (there was one where I got suspicious a chapter or two before it happened, but some books I suspect the twist from the beginning.)
The ending was so unexpected and I NEED the next book so desperately.
I loved the characters so much (except when everyone kept telling Inez what to do, but I suppose that's period typical).
Also, some historical fiction feels so stuffy to read, but this is written very nicely and it's my taste.

4,5⭐️
