This is another book I picked up because I thought the cover was pretty... Inez came across as a pretty bland not-like-other-girls protagonist; in a similar vein, Whit felt like a more obnoxious (and English) version of Brendan Fraser's character in The Mummy. Also the thing about finding Cleopatra's tomb, while interesting in real life, didn't really grab me as a plot hook.

This book sounds great on paper, but I just didn't enjoy it, I did audiobook for a majority pf it and didn't like the narration at all, her character voices made me dislike the characters lol. There were parts that got me attention but then I would get bored again. I wasn't into the romance aspect either, stakes can't be this high and you're worried about kissing a guy you barely know girly, also didn't like Whit that much to begin with. The only characters I was interested in were Isadora and Ricardo, otherwise the characters felt flat to me. Reads very YA, which I'm not a fan of but it would be great for a young person just starting to learn Spanish. So much happened in this book that just pissed me off, and the ending? Hated it. Also wish magic was used more than it was, the book overall felt very rooted in the real world and magic only came up a little bit making it feel out of place

Inez lives with her Aunt and cousins in Argentina, as her parents spend half their time in Egypt. Inez longs to join them...However, when she receives the news that her parents have died, Inez takes the plunge and takes the voyage to Egypt to try and discover what happened to her parents. Unfortunately, in her wake stands her uncle and a numerous obstacles. Whilst on her quest to discover the truth, Inez must contend with family secrets, ancient magic tied to Ancient Egyptian relics and her growing feelings for the enigma that is her uncle's assistant, Whitford Hayes. This story is full of angst, adventure, slow-burn. I ate it up. Highly recommend.
