The Four Agreements is a quick and easy read. It tends to be repetitive, though I can understand that as a writing choice to drive home the concepts. The agreements themselves are simple and make a lot of sense, and yet I can also see why they could be difficult to fully commit to in ones life as the book does a good job of explaining. Still, I enjoyed the book overall and hope to better myself through these agreements. One final note, my sister read this before I did and we both have somewhat differing spiritual views. The spirituality did not bother me at all, but she did find it a bit jarring during her read. I think the lessons provided in the book can be helpful to anyone regardless of their spirituality, but it is a big part of the book and how the agreements are explained, so just know to go in with an open mind.

Minor: Gun violence

I did add a minor content warning for gun violence. It’s one line in the chapter discussing the second agreement. While it didn’t bother me it was extreme enough of a thought to stand out, and I could see how it could potentially be triggering. Abuse is brought up a few times as well, but it’s more of a vague concept rather than anything specific,

with maybe the exception of an example where our emotions get the better of us and a tired mother yells at her daughter and tells her her singing voice is ugly

. This also didn’t bother me personally, but I think it’s better to be safe and let it be known so if someone doesn’t want to read through these things they don’t end up accidentally doing so.
