If you've never read this book, or you haven't read it since you were 10 or 11... well, it REALLY holds up.

Set in 1967 New York, it builds around its youthful characters an atmosphere that almost feels like an alternate universe. Delightful book. The writing is so nimble that I'm sure I didn't fully appreciate it when I read it as a child. Definitely a nice payoff to reading it as an adult.

I forgot how much I use to love books like this. When I was growing up I use to live a book called Nancy and Plum. This was a similar vibe. Just wholesome and goofy and truly kid centered.

Nice little character studies in this book. Gentle adventure with just enough tension to keep the story rolling forward.

Sweet book I loved as a kid! Still enjoyed it today. I’m still impressed that Claudia and Jamie could hide in a museum for a week AND take care of themselves in NYC. Would definitely be harder to do in this era with all the surveillance…but a fun little book anyways. Also, as a parent I’d be terrified if my children ran away like this!
